Day 24: Monday, Monday

Every other day, every other day,
Every other day of the week is fine, yeah
But whenever Monday comes, but whenever Monday comes
You can find me cryin’ all of the time

In the 1960s, the group The Mamas and Papas recorded a song that really fits today: Monday, Monday. The days are counting and melting away like a Popsicle on a hot summer day. The flavor does not matter, the days are just moving quickly. 58 days remain. The first day of vacation bible school and getting the kids ready and out the door after a late night was a challenge, but we did it. Toy Story 3 was a good movie and the kids really enjoyed it, but we got home very late, well after ten and that is too late for William and Olivia.

We spent the day on chores and errands. Next week William and I will be at Boys Scout camp at Camp Tesomas just north of Rhinelander, Wisconsin. William is excited and packing and getting ready. In between, he needles his sister and they run around like cat and dog. But, they can surprise me, too. They get along incredibly well, in spurts, and they stick up and support each other, just as siblings should. The weather is hot and humid and the forecast for the week is much of the same so we choose to be inside.

Dinner is hamburgers and salad enjoyed al fresco on the deck. Though it is warm, there is just enough of a breeze to take the edge off the warm, moist evening. After dinner, there is kitchen cleanup and a dog walk. William is washing the tent before camping, Olivia is helping him, Beth is visiting with a friend, and I am off to walk Ivy. A tired dog is a happy dog. The tent is not dry and we are expecting rain overnight, so we bring it into the garage. We will take it out again tomorrow so it can completely dry before packing it up. We finish dinner with strawberries and vanilla ice cream, yummmm.

Before we know it, the fireflies are flying and the mosquitoes are buzzing our ears. The day is over and it counted, though in small ways.
