Saturday and Tiger Football

Today is the day! The Tigers play for the state championship in Champaign at Memorial Stadium at the University of Illinois. Their opponent is the Lake Zurich Bears, who beat us for the 2007 state championship 7-3. It should be a good game. I have been on the fence about going, it is a two and a half hour drive; with the game and the drive together it is at least nine hours – but as the VISA commercial ends – priceless. Olivia and William will come along and Beth will get to watch in the comfort of home on television.

Wreaths on display - Friday morning

We all were out yesterday for a cold day selling wreaths for Troop 35. Temperatures plunged into the teens Thanksgiving evening bringing a cold windy Friday morning. The troop runs two retail operations for the first weekend: in front of our sponsor church and in a local shopping center’s parking lot. The troop has been at the shopping center for as long as I can remember and it does well. The church is a new site and is only open for the Thanksgiving weekend; Friday through Sunday. We, I have since learned we means everyone in the family – William, Beth, me and even Olivia, set up at the church and it was a good time, despite the lack of sales. It was cold but it did not chill our spirits.

Troop 35 poses before the parade!

The troop finished Friday by marching in the downtown Wheaton parade. It was a lot of fun and a great way to finish the day as a troop. All of us were exhausted by the day’s events. I had been up early for early morning Black Friday shopping and all of us had been outside for wreath sales and the parade. Friday was a great day, as were Wednesday and Thursday; our Thanksgiving Break has been busy and certainly counted. Saturday is gonna be a great day. Making the Days Count – one day at a time, or perhaps one Tiger at a time!
