Today is the sixty-seventh day of the school year. It doesn’t seem possible, but, it is. It is funny how time moves so quickly. This week has virtually evaporated. A week ago, it was Thanksgiving Break and now I am looking down the barrels of Winter Break and a long two-week holiday, which will seemingly go faster than Thanksgiving’s five days.

As I drove to school yesterday, I was treated to a beautiful sunrise. It was absolutely wonderful. I tried to catch a couple of pictures, but sadly taking a picture with a phone camera at a stoplight – doesn’t work well – or as well as I would have liked. It was the first day of meteorological (weatherman’s) winter and it the season was just starting.

School is moving along well, where I recently found my shovel and I am beginning to dig out from underneath all of my papers. A few weeks ago, I came across the quote below and chuckled to myself.

“The art of being wise is knowing what to overlook.”

I shared it with Lori, my co-teacher in Language Arts, and we both smiled. We realized we must be really wise, because some days we just overlook it – purposely. My LA classes are still reading Sherlock Holmes and we are on to The Adventure of the Speckled Band. They are into it and we are looking at how the author develops the characters. They like the story, not the work, but they are into it.  Today, we’ll make it almost to the end and finish Monday, a good cliffhanger for the weekend.

Today is day 67, it is gonna be a great day – I know it. Day 67 leads to 68, and so on. The calendar days are peeling away, but they count in so many ways. Making the Days Count, one sunrise at a time, one winter day after another.
