Spring Day

Spring has sprung, at least for a brief moment earlier this week. Wednesday morning, I walked out of the house and it was 50 degrees; it was the same morning the storms rolled across southern Illinois. Right now, we are back in the mid-30s and cloudy; it looks much the same as most of January and February did. Nevertheless, it is spring.

I checked the weather for today and it does not look much better with all of the severe alerts and warnings. Currently (as I write) we have no warnings, yet. However, I checked the cottage the have a Winter Storm Warning and are predicting 8+ inches of wet heavy snow. To the south, in Oxford, Mississippi, where my step-mom lives, they are anticipating strong evening storms. And in Versailles, there are wind warnings. Yesterday, we had our annual tornado drill at school and I was reminded of the possibility of severe weather. There is little I can do about the weather is watch and pray that no one is harmed by the storms.

I was in the yard with Ivy yesterday and I noticed we have pockets of green pips poking up through the soil. It is a sign that the earth – at least our part of it – is coming alive. Soon, we will see a lot more green. Though the year has moved so quickly, it is hard to believe we are at the beginning of spring. Next week at my school, we have state testing; my kids are being tested, too. Soon it will be spring break and then summer. A cycle continues. In the Bible, Ecclesiastes 3:1 it begins:

There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens:

It goes on to state that there is a time for many things. But, essentially, it says everything and everyone has a time. Right, now it is time for me to get going, get moving and making the day count. It is truly gonna be a great day. I am gonna put my best foot forward and make the most of what I have. Making the Days Count, one spring day at a time.

What are you going to do to today (or when you read this) to make your day count?
