reading in bed, listening to the rain and sleet ping against the window…

It’s Monday and the weather is awful. It began to rain and sleet this morning and it transitioned to snow, then rain. Normally, at this time in my day, I’d be on my way home from school, but it’s the second Monday of Christmas Break, the last Monday, I remind myself.

Christmas break has been good. We stayed home this year and it has been a good time albeit a bit awkward, the first Christmas without my in-laws, B’s parents, and a trip home to Ohio. Christmas day was a mix of new and old. It felt right. We’ll spend New Year’s by the lake, but for NOW, I am home. Christmas break has been what our family has needed.

This morning, I made sure w was up and off to wrestling practice. Then, instead of getting busy, I succumbed to the weather crawling back in bed to read a book, then fell asleep, and woke, then read some more. I am reading A Volcano Beneath the Snow: John Brown’s War Against Slavery by Albert Marrin. It’s an interesting read and the subject is right where I am in my history curriculum – pre-Civil War.

The weather changed throughout the morning. But the weather here is nothing compared to what the south has endured yesterday or on Christmas Day.

Ivy knew, too. she’s been out twice – all day – content to curl up beside me and live the dogs life.

I’ll be back to school in a week, rather in a week I’ll be driving home wishing I had more days to read and relax, but the truth is – it is now.

There is tomorrow, the next day, and in all six days; yet for now, there is today and tonight. There is balancing the checkbook, paying bills, encouraging W with his Eagle project and his final economics project, finishing the thank you notes, and more. There is always more.

In the meantime, there is now. Making the Days Count, one day at a time, even when time seems to stop.

What is happening NOW for you?

This post is in response to the Weekly Photo Challenge at WordPress.com, have a wonderful week. For this week’s challenge, take a moment to notice your now, and share a photo of it. Perhaps it is something imperfect, or mundane, or under-appreciated. Maybe it is a simple moment, or maybe it is something grand; we can’t wait to see!

    1. Thank you Dawn. Every journey regardless of how far begins with a single step and then another. 2016 is off to a good start, the kids are skiing in Bellaire, MI and I am readying New Year’s Day dinner – a traditional family meal of roast pork and sauerkraut and mashed potatoes. Have a wonderful day and fabulous new year. Peace.

    1. Thank you. I did not venture outside at all Monday and Ivy went outside three times and returned to the back door quickly. It has been wet at home, fortunately we have not had floods in our community, but to the west in Missouri it has flooded and states further south and west it has flooded. It’s been an unusual winter. We had snow early at home and then none and it warmed up. Our basement sump pump has been busy pumping water from around the foundation and keeping the basement dry. If we could only channel the water to lace where it is needed most. Happy New Year.

  1. I’ve done a lot of reading and slacking off recently, too. It’s slow season here at the inn so I’m taking advantage. Won’t be long until we’re off to the races again.

My “now” moment is enjoying the Christmas lights on the tree for the next couple of days. I’ll be deconstructing Christmas starting Friday.

Stay safe and enjoy your last few bits of winter break.

    1. Thank you stopping in. Taking time to enjoy the lights on the tree or time to enjoy the season is all part of life, I know I don’t savor the now as much as I should. May you have the Happiest of New Years and many more. Peace.

    1. Thank you – Ivy is a delight and part of the family. She’s asleep on a footstool looking out the front windows at the moment. She reminds me that i need to live up to what she thinks I am – a tall order. have a wonderful New Year and many happy returns. Peace.

Thanks for visiting MtDC. How are YOU Making YOUR Days Count?
