Narrow: a photo challenge

Friday afternoon getaway traffic all boiled down to the last mile.

the lake is directly ahead, one more turn, a right, and a one lane dirt road…

The roads get smaller and the trees make them narrower. The last road is the narrowest with trees towering to the sky. The road bends to the left and I go straight, onto the one lane dirt road.

Leaving Chicagoland on a Friday is always a gamble. Accidents and construction, or both. I never know. Yesterday’s drive took over seven hours. It could’ve been longer. Regardless, the drive always ends with the last narrow mile and a one lane dirt road.

I am here. By the lake. It’s race weekend on the river.

Today is gonna be a great day. Summer is winding down, it’s the last weekend in July and Monday is August 1. Gonna make the day count, I always try, especially when summer is narrowing like the last mile of a drive to the cottage.

How’s your summer? Is it narrowing, or widening?

the second to last mile, a slight right turn, then another right, and the lake.

Today’s post is inspired by last week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Narrow. This week, let’s keep things narrow (but not narrow-minded!): share a photo with your take on the theme. You could focus on a slender object, or shoot an image where your field of vision is restricted. Alleyways and half-open doors, seesaws and water slides, spaghetti and electric cords… the world is full of narrow things. I can’t wait to see which one you’ll pick for your entry.

    1. Great to have you – the past several months have been a challenge for time. College starts for my son in a less than three weeks. No athletics, that part of his life is complete, but academics. I’ll still go to the local high school football games on Friday nights, but I think I’ll skip the wrestling in the winter. My daughter will be in 8th grade and I get to live the dream – 8th grade everywhere, home AND at work! She plays softball there will be fall ball then spring ball. I hope to get back here a couple of times this fall. Thanks for stopping by and enjoy the last couple of weeks before summer ends…officially.

    1. I forget how narrow an English summer can be. I spent three summers in England – near London and remember how un-summer like it was relative to my own experience of a southeast Texas summer (at the time). I would visit my dad and step-mom in early June to early July, then my brothers would arrive for their visit, Summer was a day or two, or maybe three, but it never got hot like the summers I knew. But, the days were always perfect for sitting in the garden and reading a good book.

  1. I think my summer is narrowing since it’s so hot here now and kids are getting ready to go back to school. When you rely on tourism to turn a profit, these long hot summer days make the checkbook a lot narrower that’s for sure.

I’m not sure how to post a picture here or I would have. Tech savvy is something I need to be more of.

    1. Summer has a way of narrowing the checkbook for sure, I would have thought summer would be busy with all of the travel. Especially with the july 4th holiday and Battle of Vicksburg celebrations. You can never fully predict what tourists will do.

As for posting a photo – upload a photo to your blog and then post the link to your photo in the comment, it won’t show the image but it will show the link. And the photo is only visible on your blog, if you activate on a post or page.

Enjoy your August as it winds down to fall. Peace.

Thanks for visiting MtDC. How are YOU Making YOUR Days Count?
