It’s Good Friday and I am out of school. It’s called a local holiday on the calendar, but it’s really Good Friday.
Several weeks ago, I wrote about the arrival of Spring in a Time for Everything. At the time the crocus were beginning to break through the soil and return color to the world. Since then, more color has arrived. The grass is greener, the trees are beginning to bud, and the daffodils are in full bloom.
I took a peak at the Daffodil Glade at the Morton Arboretum this morning. And I found the glade ready for our annual visit for Easter photos. It was a surprise. Even though I know every year the daffodils bloom, it’s always a surprise.
I’ve been looking forward to seeing the glade in full bloom and photographing our 2017 version of our family photos. We’ve been visiting the Daffodil Glade to take family photos since ’04. It’s always a surprise to see what we find.
It’s going to be a great day, so I’d better jump up, jump in, and seize the day. Making the Days Count, one day at a time, one surprise after another.

Where I lived in California we had an area called Daffodil Hill – very similar to your glade – that was bright yellow every spring and for a few weeks people would flock to that little hole in the wall town to see the daffodils. It truly is the little things that are the best.

We took our photos last night and the glade was mostly ours. There was a young family with two young girls taking family photos in their Easter dresses and a couple of folks walking the glade and taking in the beauty of the spring blossoms. We finished the evening driving through the Arboretum. My son spied a possum tucked into the empty know of a tree hollow, but it was too dark to capture a photo. I Agree! We have a relatively multi-cultural area with many South Asian and Southwest Asians in our schools…..but my daughter’s school district is not nearly as diverse, but it is still referred to as a local holiday. It appears we do not wish to offend anyone here… Happy Easter to you and your family as well. Peace.
