Yesterday was the Fourth of July. Independence Day. We spent our day as we usually do – parade, lake, dinner, then fireworks.
My wife reminded me to fly the flag the evening before, but I didn’t put the flag up until the yesterday morning.
It was a beautiful summer day. I got to ride in the boat and watch my daughter enjoy tubing. My daughter towed me to and from the boat on her tube. But, no water for me, other than a shower until I get the green light in a couple of weeks to swim and get in the lake. I’ll have to wait until later in the summer when my incision is fully healed.
The day was a wonderful day to remember Thomas Jefferson’s words;
We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.–That to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed,
And the symbolism of the colors of the flag;
“red symbolizes hardiness and valor, white symbolizes purity and innocence, and blue represents vigilance, perseverance and justice.”
Sometimes it is a good thing to pause, reflect, and dedicate ourselves to these ideals.
Yesterday was a great day, truly. I read Ingrid’s post at Live, Laugh, RV and was inspired to write a patriotic flag post. Thank you for inspiration.
Today is going to be an amazing day, too. So, I’d better jump up, jump in, and seize the day. Making the Days Count, one day at a time, taking time to reflect where I’ve been to make sure I am headed in the right direction.

It was a fun day. It cooled down and we’ve been able to sleep with the covers tight and windows open since Thursday. It’s been amazingly mild and lake life got a bit of a surprise Friday afternoon. hope to spin it into a post…have a wonderful day and week ahead.
Well, the fourth isn’t our special day of course. I was pond dipping with a class of six year olds at Fountains Abbey – great fun! Glad you all had a good day.
Sounds like a wonderful time – I soon will be able to dip in the lake. Soon. As for the fourth, I understand, but I believe our ‘break up’ was inevitable to certain degree. Our country is greater because of our close relationship with your country over the years. Stronger together, than apart. I hope your weekend was wonderful.
