W^2 – October sunrise

W^2 or W squared for Wordless Wednesday, October 8, 2025

My drive to school usually takes about a half an hour, sometimes a little more depending on the weather or the traffic or both. I’ve been driving the same route for over 25 years and sometimes I take the road less traveled.

Last week, I took the road less traveled and passed by the forest preserve in full sunrise. It was a humid morning with ground fog which scattered the sun’s light. It was beautiful.

September was dry and warm, especially the second half of the month. This past Monday night it rained hard, and the earth soaked it up; then yesterday afternoon cool winds, clear skies, and high pressure moved into the area bringing cooler fall weather. It was great sleeping weather last night, but I don’t think I’ll get the same shot this morning. Only time will tell.

It is Wednesday and today is going to be a wonderful Wednesday. I am going to take the alternate route and see what the sunrise brings. Sometimes a diversion is the best way to tackle a Wednesday. Today could be a million and six times better than yesterday. I’d better jump up, jump in, and seize the day. Making the Days Count, one day at a time, sometimes mixing it up on the way to school.

Do you mix it up when you drive to same place?

  1. It was an hour drive each way when I USED TO (emphasis on used to) drive to work. I could take the freeway, wit it’s 4 to 5 lanes of crazy drivers, all going 100 mph and slowing to 30 mph instantly (this is the scariest driving to me, as my dad was killed while slowed in traffic when a truck driver didn’t notice everyone slowing)…or I can take ‘back roads’ which aren’t country by any means, but the speed generally stays around 45, and I figure there’s less chance of getting killed when everyone is going slower. So…not because it was prettier, but just because it felt safer I would go that way if I was feeling extra stressed about the commute, going either direction. It was only 23 miles between my house and the office, but it was an awful drive and I don’t miss it one bit. I LOVE your sunrise image though. It’s really beautiful.

    1. WOW, I would take the road less traveled, too. The route I take most often is a a congested state highway. It’s six lanes – three each side and it’s a busy north-south truck route with an occasional car zipping left to right weaving through traffic. Wednesday morning, I was early and took the road that is the most peaceful through a forest reserve and avoided the state highway. Even so the sun rise over the prairie! Have a great weekend.
