I have been looking for one these woodpeckers for over two years. Last fall I saw one, but by the time I had trained my camera it was gone. Two weeks ago, at the lake I spied one along the lane picking through a log on the ground and then saw another on a tree. I didn’t have my camera, but I was able to capture both with my phone camera. The following Sunday I recorded the video below as a pair of them worked the forest in search of food. it is the ABA Bird of the Year for 2021!
It made my weekend and I keep Making the Days Count, one day at a time.
What made your weekend?
Aren’t they just the coolest birds? I have seen a few of them, particularly at Kensington. Though this spring I saw one fly through a neighbor’s yard. I have not succeeded in getting good images of them, but it sure is fun trying!
Great captures! What great birds woodpeckers of all kinds are! For me, it was a heron that took off right in front of me. So … birds for both of us!
Made my lunch pause! Had two green ones in my garden in France – their skills made my head spin…. my Sunday always consists of going to church, playing the Cello in our reduced orchestra, either having drinks and talks with friends, a leisurely lunch at a time when , the cook, am ready and, because of a stressful week and cold weather, a short lie down…. nothing exciting but oh so just right.
