W^2 or W squared for Wordless Wednesday, July 24, 2024
It is Wednesday, almost Thursday. Fern and I wrapped up our business in Illinois and we loaded the car and drove back to the lake this afternoon. She was a fabulous driving companion and slept most of the trip curled up in the front seat or laid out in the back seat.
Last Sunday, Fern and I met B (my wife) at Stephan Bridge several miles downstream on the Au Sable River to watch the canoe racers pass through on their trip down the river to McMaster’s Bridge. It is a timing station for the BIG canoe race this weekend. It is also a great place to watch the canoes approach from down river, and if you are hungry there is an amazing restaurant on the south bank.
Fern and I enjoyed our visit, but I think she was more interested in the smells than the canoes.
This year’s race starts this Saturday night at 9 PM and I’ll be watching from our traditional location and sharing a video of all the racers passing through. I won’t be bringing Fern though. One year, someone brought their dog to the race, and the dog got so excited it jumped in the river upending several canoes and wreaking havoc for those racers unfortunate enough to have been caught up in the incident. I am not going to be that person and Fern isn’t going to be that dog.
Today has already been a great day, and it is time to bid the day farewell to it, lest this be a Thoughtful Thursday or some other alliterative post. So, I’d better get ready to jump in bed and seize the pillow. Making the Days Count, one day at a time enjoying a beautiful day by a river.
When was the last time you watched a river flow?
Fern is beautiful! And you’re right – nothing like watching a river flow. In my neck of the woods, we have more lakes and sea. But you’ve brought back some great memories of river front!
Thank you. The race is tonight and we are all excited. Both of my kids are up for the weekend including our pregnant daughter-in-law for our last race with only two generations! Exciting.
I watch a river flow almost ever day, as the River Ure is just down the road. When on foot, I rarely pass up the chance to stand and stare at it. And in Ripon, we have three rivers and one canal, so they’re part of our lives here. Enjoy that race!
At home I cross a river getting to school and back. One of my favorite forest preserves has a river running through it, I stop to watch the water when I can. And here beside the lake, or even along the seashore there is something about the power of water…. enjoy your weekend!
You too Clay!
How fun! Katie and I always stopped at a little park in downtown Greyling and walked across a little bridge there on our trips home from camping at Hartwick Pines state park.
What a great memory. Any plans to camp with Penny? Hope your summer is great!
Lovely ♥️
Thank you for stopping in. Peace.
