Sign of the Week – July 4th

Happy Independence Day! Or if you are not from the United States, Happy Fourth of July.

I found this week’s sign on the way home from volunteering at Loaves and Fishes this past Monday night. Monday night is a regular night for me and I look forward to seeing some of the regular clients who rely on us to help them make ends meet. I know I am making a difference and helping those who need help get the help they need.

Tuesday morning I got the Quote of the Day from the folks at Pass It On dot org.

I came across the organization (The Foundation for a Better Life) years before the blog and I remember writing about them in the infancy days of Making the Days Count dot org. In June 2010, I wrote a post and remember talking to my mom about it. A couple of weeks while repairing a blog posts from the early days (first month) of the blog I came across this post…. Day 25 – Patience. And I read it again. I finished repairing a few more – the posts with broken links or photos that didn’t display. In those infancy days, I didn’t have many readers other than my mom or my wife. I came across a comment from my mom and it was good to hear her voice. I miss it very much.

Sometimes you need a good sign to get you thinking. I hope you see a sign, or find one, today that speaks to you and reminds you, that you are doing a right things with your life.

Today is going to be an amazing day, I know it and I can feel it. So, I’d better jump up, jump in, and seize the day. Making the Days Count, one day at a time, especially special days like today.

Bump in the road, moving forward

It’s Saturday morning and it’s quiet. Ivy was excited to see me this morning when I came downstairs. We we sat together outside for a few moments while I sipped my coffee and listened to the world. She followed me in when it was time to begin the day. It’s always quiet Saturday mornings, before the kids awake and move on to their activities.

Several weeks ago, I alluded to working on a BIG project and handing it in.

from : Quiet Saturday Mornings (9/5) ……. I reached a milestone, too, I finished a big project and I turned it in yesterday afternoon. I got the confirmation this morning. It’s too soon to write about, but I’ll report back when I receive news – keep your fingers crossed for me. Thanks.

Ephemeral: The Wall – 03/26/1967

washmonWe are in DC, as you can see. It is Spring Break and we needed a getaway place. There other reasons we are here, but for now, we are here to take in the sights, sounds, and the tastes of our nation’s capital. I have been here before and so has B, but this is the first trip to DC for our kids. By the time, I was W’s age, I had visited several capital cities across the globe, but never had been to DC.

Ephemeral – \i-ˈfem-rəl, -ˈfēm-; -ˈfe-mə-, -ˈfē-\ – lasting a very short time

That’s how life is. You blink and it’s gone. Life is about being in the right place at the right time. Sometimes it’s good and sometimes it’s not good. It depends, and my good might be your not good and vice versa, it’s perspective.

There is a lot to see in DC and if you blink it will be gone, but I always try to visit The Wall. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial. I visited it for the first time in 1995, and again in ‘08, and again yesterday. Visiting The Wall never gets old. I always look for the same name, Douglas E. Dickey. 17E 50.
