Clean glassware drying on the drying rack. Naperville, IL Monday, June 3, 2024, 12:54 PM

It’s summer again, this year it’ll be my 25th summer break as a teacher. I have four more summer breaks after this one, then it’ll be permanent summer break.

This summer, and for the past twenty-four, I’ve simply been auditioning.

Before I could start summer, I needed to clean up and put away things in my classroom. I am not moving classrooms this year and I hope that I don’t need to move again; my classroom has a tile floor, and it gets cleaned and waxed over the summer. Translated, I am required to pack up and clean everything on the floor space before the maintenance crew moves everything out into the hallway. It also included washing and putting away the dirty beakers and Erlenmeyer flasks (sciencey pyramid shaped glassware) I used this year but didn’t clean until the last day.

This summer will much like those in the past – time for family, a little travel, a little adventure, a little bit of doing those things that I promised to do when summer came, yard work, housework, and so much more. A lot of restoration and rejuvenation.

I plan to write more at MtDC and work on my teacher blog at Semper Sharkus, but most importantly spending time with family and watching baseball games in different venues. This Friday, I take off for Los Angeles, then San Francisco for five games in seven days. I am excited. In July, I plan to visit Toronto for at least two games, and in August it’s Boston for three games, hopefully.

Then it’s back to school. Which by then, hopefully, I’ll be ready and so will the kiddos. Then, it’ll be time use the clean glassware again.

It’s Wednesday afternoon and the cicadas are chirping, buzzing, and making quite a racket out here in the summer office. It’s been a full day for the second day of summer. So, I had better proofread, and double check to make sure what I wrote makes sense, hit publish, then finish the day strong. Making the days Count, one day at a time, enjoying summer resting, restoring, and rejuvenating.

When is it YOUR time to rest, restore, and rejuvenate? and how, do you do it?

same photo from above, only color photo…..but it is difficult to tell
