Cottage Time

Ivy WILL NOT be left behind
Ivy WILL NOT be left behind

I am at the Michigan cottage now, it has been 1600 plus miles in one week. That’s how far I driven since my trip to Mississippi and back and to the cottage last Friday morning. That’s a long way. The drive down to Mississippi didn’t seem to faze me, but the drive back took its toll. I was whacked, the following day. All I wanted to do was sleep, I would sneak off to lie down and catch a short nap, if I could. It only frustrated B because there was much to do, there always is, especially when we were packing and heading north for a week.

B left early Thursday morning and I followed the next day. She took O and picked up her mom in Ann Arbor to bring her to the cottage for a week. We had hoped her dad would be up for a trip to the cottage, but not this trip, maybe later. W had football on Thursday, a 7 on 7 tournament, and we couldn’t leave until he was finished. He has one more week of summer football, after a week off for Independence Day, before heading off to the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. It’s a busy summer. W and I ran errands Thursday getting needed provisions for cottage meals and taking care of a few final details before driving up Friday morning. Ivy was concerned she was not included in our travel plans and sulked around the car while we loaded, jumping up and lying down in the back seat begging to be included. Once we got moving Ivy was the perfect passenger sleeping most of the way, she was very excited when we pulled into the driveway and she got out to survey the yard sniffing and marking her yard. W helped unload before running off to find his ‘cottage friends.’

That was Friday, I am not entirely sure how I got to Tuesday morning but the weather has been wonderful; Pure Michigan – warm days, cool nights, and fun times. We have one of the boats in the water with Ely boat to follow later today or tomorrow. It has been restored and looks like new, W can hardly wait to get her in the lake and run her up and down the shore.

I’ve enjoyed getting up early, before the cottage wakes with activity. Grandma and I share a cup of coffee and look out on the lake. Ivy curls up on her bed and sleeps. Some things, just don’t change. It feels strange. In between arriving and now, I have enjoyed cooking and having breakfast and dinner at the table overlooking the lake. Saturday night I grilled chicken breasts and Sunday I grilled and smoked BBQ baby back ribs serving backed beans, cucumber salad, vegetables for dipping, and finishing with fresh strawberries served with vanilla ice cream. Nothing beats cottage cooking and eating, for some reason it tastes better up here, maybe it’s the air, maybe it’s the company, maybe it’s the view. Whatever it is, it certainly helps make the days count.

The cottage is beginning to wake and I need to get moving or I will be run over. There is much to do, there always is, even when I am on cottage time. Today is gonna be a great day, I know it, and I can feel it. It’s time to jump up, jump in, and seize the day. Making the days Count, one day at a time, even on cottage time.

Where does the time go?

    1. It is wonderful place to get away and the view is one of many of the benefits. It is quiet and peaceful up here, perfect for dreaming. The weather cooled down Saturday and Sunday morning it was a crisp 42. Sitting here looking out at the lake I am content, but back home in the hustle and bustle of everyday life I am tempted to push the red button. Glad you swung by – keep making your days count.

    1. It is a great place to kick back and relax. We had a wonderful 4th, hope you did, too. We drove home yesterday and were greeted by traffic jams along the Michigan-Indiana-Illinois borders funneling four lanes of traffic into two does not work well, or at all. It’s good to be home. We’ll head back after an action packed week and packing W up to head off for the National Scout Jamboree in West Virginia. Thanks for stopping by!

    1. Ivy is having a blast – she spent some time in the lake wandering around yesterday. Right now she’s sleeping, little does she know she’s going to the groomer today, shhhhhhh! can;t wait to read about your next adventure!
