opposites – a photo challenge

There is a thin line between independence, and dependence.

It’s a beautiful Sunday morning by the lake and as is often the case, I am the only one awake and it’s peaceful.  Independence weekend by the lake, it’s our family tradition. Today, we’ll spend time in the lake swimming, boating, fishing, and spending time together. Tomorrow, we’ll take in the parade and spend the evening marveling at the fireworks display in town. In between, we’ll swim, boat, fish, and spend time together. That’s why we’re here, to rest, relax, and restore.

Life is full of opposites, contrasts and differences.

I left home Friday morning and arrived at the lake Saturday afternoon. I took a circuitous route and In between, I visited Wisconsin and the scout camp where W had spent the week kayaking. It was the fourth time I had made the drive – first in 2010, and again in ‘11, and ‘12 when W and I had gone to scout camp together. It’s likely it’s the last time I’ll visit scout camp and make the drive.

Travelling across the seemingly flat prairies of northern Illinois, through the rolling hills and forests of Wisconsin, and along the lake Michigan shoreline; I drove all four directions – west, north, east and then south. Opposites.

I am here, awake Ivy is curled up on footstool sleeping as are O and B. Opposites. Today is gonna be a great day, Satie’s – ‘Je te veux’ is softly playing in the background and I know I should get moving, or the day will pass me by – opposites of action and inaction. So, I had better jump up, jump in, and seize the day. Making the Days Count, one day at a time, one direction at a time – opposites.

What opposites forces are working on you today?

NOTE: the photos are in order clockwise beginning with the upper left. Enjoy.

Today’s post is inspired by last week’s WordPress Weekly Photo Challenge: Opposites In your photo this week, show how opposites can tell a story about people, places, or objects. The tension can reside in what you choose to show — old vs. new, big vs. small, dark vs. light — or in how you frame and design your shot. I look forward to seeing your entries!

    1. Thank you Amy – after your comment I thought of the Pretenders song “Thin Line Between Love and Hate” and played it listening closely to the lyrics… I hadn’t thought of that until then. There is a thin line that separates most opposites – areas of gray, then black and white. We tend to live in the gray. Peace, have a wonderful week.

      1. Thank you, Clay for sharing your insights. So true, there is a thin line that separates…. Most of time, we don’t realize it until we see the difference or across the line.
It’s a great song, Clay! You, too have a wonderful week.

    1. Thank you. I love the way the camera takes the shot when I am driving, especially when I am driving through a forest with tall trees on each side almost as if I am in a narrow canyon. Driving along Lake Michigan was beautiful and refreshing – I almost stopped and walked down to the beach and hung out for a while. Regrets. Have a wonderful week, Peace.

  1. Great shots and beautiful weather! I took the dog for a walk this morning and normally shes all about walking the long road with me. Today however, there smells in the air and funny looking hikers that had her pulling me home sooner than I was ready. lol

    1. Thanks for stopping in – the weather here has been amazing. Clear skies with warm days and clear nights. Ivy, the wonder dog, has been enjoying the lake. I have been, too. A few more days, then back to normal – whatever that is. Peace.
